Facts
- Rainforests tribes live off the land which provides food, and they grow many types of plants such as bananas, passion fruit, corn, manioc, papayas and beans
- The Acai berry is known as "super fruit"
- There are 180 different languages spoken by tribe people
- There traditional houses are made of bamboo which are covered in palm leaves, straw and banana leaves
- Most tribe people have never had contact with the outside world. They wear hardly any clothing
- Clothes are all made out of what the rainforest supplies them
- Both legal and illegal activities have threatened the Amazon Rainforest tribes. Some of the reasons for declining populations are due to deforestation in the Amazon, war, disease, oil development and drug trafficking. In response, Brazil has set up a type of reservation to protect the Amazonian tribes
- For spiritual ceremonies, to become a man, young boys must wear gloves filled with bullet ants!
- Tribes have a lack of medical supplies so their life expectancy is a lot shorter. The main disease are malaria, malnutrition and parasites.
